Auto top-up
Auto top-up buys prepaid credit for you when it falls below a threshold you set, so tasks keep running without a manual top-up.
- Turn it on in Billing, under Add prepaid credit. Choose up to three saved payment methods in order, the threshold, and the amount to buy each time, from $10 to $10,000.
- Credit is checked as usage is charged, about a minute after the work happens.
- Your payment methods are tried in order and the first that succeeds is charged. If none does, nothing is charged, Billing shows why, and auto top-up tries again after five minutes.
- Each auto top-up adds 20% extra credit: buying $50 adds $60. The processing fee is charged on the amount you buy, as for a manual top-up, and the credit is valid for 12 months.
- Saving the settings charges nothing. Turn the switch off to stop; your choices are kept for next time.
Auto top-up checks your prepaid credit minus anything you owe. When that falls below your threshold, it charges the amount you chose, never more, and adds the 20% extra credit. If you still owe more after that, it charges again, at most once an hour. Each auto top-up emails the organization's owner a receipt. A $0 threshold tops up as soon as anything is owed. While auto top-up is on, running tasks are not stopped when credit runs out; new tasks are refused until nothing is owed.
When credit runs out
- With auto top-up on
- A running task is never stopped for balance. It runs until it finishes or reaches its own cost cap.
- With auto top-up off
- When plan usage and prepaid credit are both used up, a running task stops at its current step as incomplete, with the reason balance_exhausted. Its work is kept, and Continue resumes it once there is credit.
- New tasks
- While the account owes money, new tasks are refused with 402 and the code no_credit, and the console shows that new tasks are paused.
A cost cap on every task
Every task stops at a cost cap: $10 unless the harness or the request sets max_cost_usd. A task that reaches it ends incomplete with the reason cost_cap, and its work is kept.
What each task cost
Model usage is billed at exactly what the model's provider charges, with no markup, and agent work by the active minute; Pricing lists the rates. A task's cost settles about a minute after each turn.
- The task view shows the task's cost as it runs.
- Usage shows where your money went, by day and by harness.
- Billing shows this month's spending split into model usage, agent work and agent memory.
Receipts
Every purchase, manual or automatic, has a receipt under Payments and grants on the Billing page. Payment methods and invoices opens the payment portal, where saved cards and invoices are managed.
From the API
The balance covers plan usage and prepaid credit, after anything owed, and can be up to a minute old; as_of says when it was read. Auto top-up settings and purchase receipts are managed in the console.
